Safety Fork Truck Training For Your Employees

Safety Fork Truck Training For Your Employees

All employees operating a fork truck needs the appropriate training from a qualified instructor, this is law and mandatory. After the proper training is provided the employee can then drive and operate the fork truck as and when needed by the company. All too often when it comes to the fork truck the operator forgets a lot of the safety training that was given and items are missed off the check list and the employee becomes sloppy and lazy. Because a fork truck is such a powerful and dangerous machine these safety precautions cannot be missed, everyday checks need to be made and if these checks are not made accidents can occur and they can even be fatal.

All employees should be trained on fork truck health and safety even if they do not operate the truck themselves; they are still onsite when the truck is in motion and so they need to be told how to be safe around them. Placing safety posters around the work site is a good way of reminding employees of the safety procedures and to remind them how important it is that these safety rules are followed. Regular meetings and talks about the safety of the fork truck are essential as this keeps it fresh in the mind of the employees. It is important that the employees understand how important the safety of operating a fork truck is and this can come across from employers and managers. If they see the employer and supervisor lax about the safety procedures they will follow that lead, whereas if they see how important the head is taking the safety they too will take it seriously. Many employees think that because the fork truck does not travel very fast that it can’t be very dangerous, but it’s the weight of the machine and its uses that make it dangerous, and most often when an accident does occur with a fork truck it is not a light injury.
