Maintenance Of A Fork Lift

Most likely, you spent a lot of money to purchase your fork lift. It therefore is important to take good care of it so that you may protect the investment you put in it. It is good to know the procedures that are undertaken during maintenance and care of this machine.

You can tell whether or not the engine is performing well by starting the fork lift and listening to it as it runs. If there are any knocks or misses, the machine is defective. You should also listen carefully to know whether or not there is any squealing sound caused by the belts.

Some of the parts that you need to pay attention to when carrying out maintenance include gauges, horn, safety warning devices, lights and the overhead guard. Any burnt out bulbs and faulty parts should be replaced. Wiring should also be checked.

Proceed to the battery compartment to see whether the terminals are clean. If they are not, clean them. The cables and connectors also need to be checked. Every cell of the battery should be checked for the fill level and topped up accordingly.

The next step is to drain the oil and to change the filters. Both the transmission filter, hydraulic filter and fuel filters should be replaced regularly. Remember to write the date on the new filters using a permanent marker before fitting them.

After that, proceed to visually inspect the drive axle from underneath the machine. Make sure to grease the axle if there is any grease fitting. Proceed to check for any cracks and frays on the belts on the engine. If any, fix the problem accordingly. After that, inspect every other part including the wheels for any fault. Remember to call in a fork lift. expert if there is anything that you think you cannot fix on your own.
