Forklift safety is very important and has always been a major issue in warehouses and wherever these large machines are used. Preventing accidents is very important as there have been may deaths while handling these machines.
Accidents and injuries can happen at any time. In fact, there have been more than 100 deaths throughout the past 20 years in the Unites States. There have even been over 10,000 injuries that sprout from improper usage of these large machines.
The most common types of accidents and injuries that occur are from hitting a pedestrian, not paying attention, tipping over the machine or dropping the load which can also lead to death. One other common accident when it comes to forklift safety is pulling away from the dock while the machine is still loading.This often results in an accident because both the driver and operator are not communicating properly. Brands such as Toyota have gone a step further to ensure that the forklifts they manufacturer are safer by alleviating roll overs and other other types of accident that may occur. This system is called ASE or Automotive Service Excellence which reduces the risk of longitudinal and lateral tip overs. The machine is fitted with a system that will adjust the axle if it becomes unstable.
There are many ways to prevent accidents in the workplace. Ensuring all members of staff and operators are clear of forklift safety procedures will inevitably create a safer work environment.
