The Forklift As The Backbone Of Commerce
When thinking about how the acts and art of commerce are actually achieved, many people never think beyond the point of purchase. Whether this point is experienced online, over the telephone, or in a physical store, this is where most thoughts of merchandising begin and end. However, they reality is that every single item bought and sold in the marketplace has been delivered by a truck, and that truck, more often than not, has been loaded by an individual on a
forklift.
The lowly
forklift, often considered only as another tool in a shipping warehouse or dock area, may well be the true backbone of the entire capitalistic system. After all, the world of commerce is devoted to the selling and purchasing of actual goods, and those goods must be delivered indeed.
Again, every physical item imaginable must be delivered, at some point, on a truck, and that truck must be in turn loaded. The lading of trucks is more often than not achieved by using forklifts. So what does this mean for the businessperson? For a beginning point, know that any industry that expects to achieve greatness must use great tools.
Here is where a quality logistics approach becomes vital. If the end result of your product is on a merchandise shelf somewhere, you want to get it there quickly, efficiently, and safely. This process begins at the point of departure, and that is where the loading of goods is done.
The desire being the most effective means of transport, the necessity of quality control at every step is of vital importance. Of course this will include the hiring of the best possible employees, and one way of attracting the very best is to offer them the very best equipment with which to perform their jobs well. This would include the machines they use to transport the goods at every step of the way.
By understanding this concept, one can understand the importance of such a piece of equipment as a
forklift. Rather than being a mere machine in a loading dock, it can be seen as a vital component in a complex process. As has been said, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, so do not underestimate the importance of every one.
