The use of forklifts has become indispensable especially in warehousing and manufacturing operations. A fork lift is a powered industrial truck used for transporting and lifting materials. This equipment has evolved gradually and today there are modern designs that are capable of lifting heavier loads and reach greater heights.
They use different types of power including diesel, electric, gasoline or diesel/gasoline. They vary in their sizes and designs as they are manufactured by different manufacturers. Some can lift over 10,000 kilograms and reach a height of over 3000mm.
The fork lift features include a truck frame, the base to which the power source, overhead guard, counterweight, wheels, axles and mast are attached. These tilts pivot the mast so as to engage the load. The mast is a vertical assembly that raises and lowers the load with interlocking rails which offer
lateral stability. Other features are carriage, load back rest and attachments. The designs include narrow guided aisle trucks which are wire or rail guided. They offload trailers and place the load in aisle racks. Others are explosion proof forklifts used in a potentially explosive atmospheres including industries that handle flammable materials like pharmaceutical and petrol-chemical. The latest are automated forklifts used to improve productivity, reduce operational costs and decrease work wages.
