Daily Fork Truck Parts Checks
Daily Fork Truck Parts Checks
When operating a forklift truck many rules and regulations need to be followed for safety reasons and precautions. One part of the health and safety procedure is to conduct daily checks of the
fork truck parts to ensure they are in good working condition before the truck is put to use. Failure to follow through on the daily checks of the fork truck parts can lead to accidents and injuries to the operator and people onsite and damage to the truck that could have been avoided.
The testing of the
fork truck parts begins with the tyres. The tyres are one of the most common parts that need to be replaced due to wearing and punctures. Warehouses or work sites are known for their flooring to be uneven and rough especially with nails and other sharp objects on the floor, the tyres are prone to damage and tears. The forklift operator should check the tyres are in good condition, inflated sufficiently, and no pins, nails or foreign objects are puncturing the tyres.
Other fork truck parts that need to be checked are the lights. Check that all lights on the truck are working such as headlights, brake lights, any indication lights and so on. If any of the lights are out the bulbs need to be changed accordingly. The horn should be tested as this is required for an emergency situation, if the operator needs to attract attention or warn others the horn is needed and so should be tested on a daily basis.
The fuel levels of the fork truck need to be tested as well. Check that there are sufficient levels of fuel in the truck before operation. Check for leaks or any smells of fuel which would give an indication of leakage. A leak of fuel is extremely dangerous and can lead to a fire being started and so this testing of
fork truck parts is exceptionally important.
