Checklist Before The Forklift Operation Begins On Site
There are a lot of equipments needed in a factory and on the port. Some of them are the ones that are used to lift heavy objects and containers from one place to the other. The equipment that does this work is a
forklift.
There are many safety hazards as far as this equipment is concerned. A supervisor must be careful about this expensive company asset and prepare a checklist that can be shared with other employees and especially the driver.
There are some questions pertaining to the safety that should be answered or remarked upon when the answer is in negative. Note down information like name of the plant site, division or department, the location where the operation is being held,
forklift recognition as well as brief detail about the kind of work involved.
Work place conditions should also be in the check list. A person should be aware if the operating area is separated from general area where employees walk around. Care should also be taken to see that there are safety and hazard signs around to warn them if it is a walking area. If there is a pathway made for the equipment, there should be a danger board warning the walkers to not cross the pathway. Blind spots should be covered with mirrors.
Check out the type of equipment being used for the operation and the load chart provided to the driver. Check the seat belt, fuel, batteries horn, tire pressure, brakes and steering, gears and beeper for reverse, indicators warning human proximity, regular maintenance records and lights.
Ensure the safety of
forklift drivers by checking their license, health, training on the machine and work experience, their knowledge about site layout, speed limit, etc. The area should be inspected, supervised, cleaned and monitored at all times to avoid accidents.
